Psychonaut Mountaineering

Psychonaut.

The Greek roots of the word combine psycho (mind or soul) and naut (sailor or navigator), translating literally to “sailor of the mind” or “navigator of the soul.”

We call it Psychonaut Mountaineering for a few reasons: mountaineering explores the limits of what the human body and mind can do! We are huge fans of the Grateful Dead, and well, because we thought it was funny.

Our mission

Psychonaut Mountaineering’s goal is simple: make technical mountain apparel as good as, or better than, the big brands. Then sprinkle in some attitude. We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel. We’re gonna take proven fabrics and designs. Improve small details that other brands have overlooked. Add some designs and colors that make you go woah, yeah, woah.

Why? Because if we are gonna become a checkpoint, we’re gonna be the sickest checkpoints on the mountain! All joking aside, we believe life’s too short to take everything seriously. We like to joke around and have fun wherever we go. We want our products and marketing to reflect that. Just because it’s dangerous doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while you’re doing it. Isn’t that the whole point: to have fun!

We joke around a lot, but we’re serious about building high-quality gear you can trust with your life when shit hits the fan. Before we bring anything to market, it will be tested vigorously in all types of extreme environments, from the Arctic to the desert.

We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel quite yet, but we are gonna improve the features we have found annoying in competitors’ products. For example, three pairs of alpine pants with internal belts that don’t work. The last thing you should be worrying about while doing something gnarly is pulling up your pants. More importantly, how are you supposed to look cool if your ass crack is hanging out?

Pockets that fit your phone without inhibiting movement or comfort. Offering tall sizes. Improve small things that just improve the overall experience.
